ESCONDIDO- A few well-known folks were looking blue, but were actually quite happy, and so were three charitable organizations.
The event was called "Make Your ‘Do
Blue," and the Escondido Councilman Ed Gallo was among the half-dozen people who agreed to have their hair dyed blue to raise money for the American Cancer Society, Children’s Hospital and Lock of Love.
"It’s a fun event and a great fund-raiser for some wonderful organizations," said Chris Cochran, marketing and promotions director for Stone Brewing of San Marcos, its sponsor.
Cochran said more
than 75 volunteers have signed up to have their hair dyed. Gallo and five others received the treatment last week at the Loft Hair Design.
Joining Gallo were Tami Ridley, owner of Friar’s Folly
wine and bistro in San Marcos; Carlton Greenawalt, head chef and new owner of Escondido’s 150 Grand restaurant; Mark Schmid, president of Syndrome Distribution in Vista, which distributes skateboards; and
Stone Brewing’s CEO Greg Koch, and president head brewmaster Steve Wagner.
Loft owner Shawna Cruise and her crew did the blue transformations. The Loft, Hair Biz in San Marcos and Shine in
Carlsbad are providing the free blue hairdos.
Money is raised from sponsors, who pledge funds for those who get their hair dyed. Cochran said that the campaign raised $17,000 in 2001 when the
color of choice was green, $18,500 when red was in.
"We decided to do it every two years, and our goal this year is to reach $20,000" Cochran said.
