Shawna
Cruise -
Artistic Director
After being recruited and
trained by my mom to cut her hair when I was 12, I saw cosmetology school as an opportunity to work my way through college. After graduating from Deloux School of Cosmetology in 1988, I began my career at The Haircut Store.
I immediately went into management, knowing that my dream was to one day be a salon owner. Working at a local Escondido salon, I spent the next 6 years honing my skills as a stylist and working on a degree in Business
Management at Cal State University of San Marcos. I became a Regional Performing Artist with Redken NYC and specialized in advanced hair color techniques. This also gave me the opportunity to begin developing an educational
program for new stylists. In search of more than Escondido had to offer, The Loft Hair Design was born in September 1998. With nearly 20yrs in this industry, my passion for our business continues to grow. The Loft is the
manifestation of my dream to create a beautiful space that is driven by a deep commitment to our customers’ experience while supporting the inspiration of our artists.

Samantha
Shafer -
Artistic Director
I started my career at Pasadena City
College Cosmetology program in January of 2000. I then
moved to San Diego from L.A. in 2001 and found Dale
International in Carlsbad. At Dale I was trained through
their assistant program in Vidal Sassoon based hair
cutting and color. After going on the floor at Dale I
continued with my education in advanced/creative
techniques and later became assistant manager. I went
with the salon when it moved downtown and later left to
work at 2 other salons on the coast. I found The Loft
Hair Design in 2004 and started on the floor as a
stylist. As the current Director of Education, I'm in
charge of scheduling and teaching classes and developing
the education program. I also attend additional classes
in advanced cutting and color, as well as management and
personal growth. I have completed a Master Colorist
Certification with Wella. My goal is to help my client’s
look and feel their best, and to create a style that is
up to date, and wearable on a daily basis. I find
inspiration in nature, art, fashion, and music. I
specialize in precision hair cutting as well as multi-
dimensional, creative and corrective color.
